Rebooted my pc and now I have no Mint graphic login screen, just a terminal. Quit awesome to see that the change worked, got stuck on a black screen.Ĩ. I removed the line in my rc.lua (AwesomeWM) that starts compton at startup so I could run picom.ħ. Built it with no problem, but decided to do something before continuing:Ħ.

Decided to install picom to use with AwesomeWM so I cloned the repo and started following the steps. If you cannot log in to GUI by 'startx', there may be graphics issues. If GUI is not displayed, press CTRL+ALT+F1 to go back to tty1 (CLI). If GUI is not displayed, press ALT+SysRq+R and then press CTRL+ALT+F7. Installed EmmyLua language server for Emacs lsp-mode, worked like a charm.ĥ. Log in to CLI with non-root user and execute 'startx'.

I don't know what caused it, but to be more specific on what I did today from loging in normally to the time I quit AwesomeWM heres what I can remember:Ģ. bash: node: command not found Output for nodejs -v. (usually it appears, then after some seconds it goes to the regular mint login scren but now it just stays there). I rebooted the pc, and suddenly it just gets stuck at that terminal login prompt without showing me the graphical login interface. After that I decided to quit Awesome to login again to see if my changes worked, but it got stuck on a black screen. I was doing some seemingly normal things, changing the config for Emacs and then AwesomeWM. Most WindowManagers also have a method of starting programs when they first startup.So I've been using Mint (20.2) for quite a while, and everything has been perfect until now. If you want the script to be called when ever an X Session is started, then you should instead use ~/.xsession. Note that ~/.xinitrc is only for configuring the initialization of xinit.

Except for very specific purpose, it shouldn't be necessary to touch xinitrc file. (Under Gnome System Menu > Preferences > session).
